Bureau of Architects

Today Bureau member and friend, Ricky Hele, IM'd me with a Rhino question that I decided to turn into a realtime tutorial. This tutorial will set a background image for you to align your model against to get the same view. Then you can render your model and composite it with the original photo in Photoshop.

That alignment is good enough for now, if I only needed the back wall with the "Anonymous" banner. Hope it helps.

As always, email me with any Rhino Tips you would like to see, or just instant message me as I suppose you all have my screen name now.

On a side note, how many different ways can you "XREF" an image into rhino? Is there one that mimics the AutoCAD function? I'd like the image to be scaled and pan with the drawing... Thanks!

The best way is the command "pictureframe".

I think i tried pictureframe before, but I was so frustrated that it only showed the picture while in rendered view. Is there a way to view the picture AND the lines you are drawing at the same time?

Pictureframe DOES show the lines and the image at the same time. That is how I trace things every day. Try it again and message me if it doesn't work. It may be something in your settings.

It shows the lines while you trace, but as soon as you finish the line, it disappears until you switch to wireframe or shaded view. Frustrating when you trace something with multiple lines or layers...

Something is wrong with your settings.

Hey Dustin,

to fix this, I think, but I'm pretty sure do the following: options>Render>miscellaneous and make sure the box for Render Curves and Isocurves is checked. Uncheck when you're finished or ready to do a final render.

Nope. You shouldn't have to do anything except have the current Service Releases. I think SR3 fixed this.
